As we enter the final two months of 2024, we are thrilled to announce the completion of a major milestone: our two-year project to upgrade the SILEC area from copper to fibre is officially finished!
Originally planned as a three-year project, we expedited the timeline and are proud to report that the project was completed under budget. Initially estimated at $3.0 million, we successfully underspent by $750,000, thanks to careful planning and efficient project execution. Nearly 50 km of fibre optic cable has been laid, and we’ve successfully upgraded almost all of our targeted homes. This surplus has allowed us to commence a small expansion of our service to an additional 100+ homes in the eastern part of our network, bringing high-speed fibre to more members than originally planned.
For those who have not yet taken advantage of the free fibre upgrade, we strongly encourage you to do so. Our focus will soon shift to decommissioning the aging copper network. Due to the high cost of maintaining and repairing the copper lines, we cannot continue services over copper into 2025. If you are still using copper-based service, now is the time to upgrade, to stay connected. Please contact us.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your continued support of our local co-operative. We understand that, in today’s economic climate, with rising taxes and inflation, many of you may be considering your options based on price. While some of our members have switched to competitors, we firmly believe that Gosfield provides superior service—a level of reliability and quality you’ve come to expect.
In October, we introduced to our members a special offer on two-year internet rate plans. These discounted rates lock in your savings, while still delivering the excellent service we pride ourselves on. What you pay today, will be the same for 24 months. No base rate increase. As a reminder, Gosfield announced in September 2023 that we will be standing down the Gosfieldtel.com email platform as of December 31, 2024. Many of our members have already transitioned to new platforms, and we highly encourage those who haven’t to make the switch soon to avoid any disruptions. I
Lastly, we want to inform you of some upcoming changes to a few channels in our lineup. Providers such as Bell Media, Rogers, and Corus are in the process of transferring ownership and renaming several familiar channels. Please note that Gosfield has no control over these changes, but we hope that the affected providers will communicate any updates while you are watching these channels. We understand that this may cause some confusion, and we appreciate your understanding as these transitions take place.
